In celebration of Spring and community, we are bringing back one of the classics! Please join us at the Altona Grange for a foot-stomping good time, with easy-to-follow circle and square dances for everyone ages 0-101. You don't need to know what you're doing because our dance caller, and his accompanying string band will tell your feet what to do...

Dust off your dance shoes and mark your calendars for this one-of-a-kind old-timey dance. It's a true experience of community and fun-we hope you'll make it out!

Dance Caller: Chris Kermiet is one of the finest old-time square dance callers in the United States and has been featured at numerous festivals, workshops, and dance events across the country. He has been calling and teaching traditional American squares and contras now for over 35 years.  During the past 15 years, he has also created choreographies for a number of performing groups and theater companies. In October 2009, he was celebrated as a “Living Legend of Dance in Colorado” by the Carson-Brierly Dance Library at the University of Denver.

Musicians: Old-time string band Sage Grouse plays both hard-driving and sweet old-time tunes for your dancing and listening pleasure! Old-time is traditional pre-bluegrass fiddle and banjo music with deep roots in rural Appalachia and the Midwest. The music traveled with settlers who came to the West, taking root in mining camps and settlements throughout the Central Rockies. Dave Brown (fiddle), Pat Carbone (banjo), and Ellen Rosenberg (guitar) are Sage Grouse: musicians and longtime friends.
